Kink Reveals Its Production Consent Documents, Shooting Protocols

SAN FRANCISCO—Kink.com, which specializes in the worldwide distribution of BDSM and fetish entertainment, is publicly releasing its shooting protocols and consent documents, and encouraging producers throughout the industry to use them as starting points for making sure that their own productions are safe and worker-friendly.

The documents are considered the first step in building an online resource geared at improving consent on adult productions.

“Kink has over twenty years’ experience in producing safe, consensual, hardcore material,” noted Alison Boden, CEO of Kink.com. “We are not perfect. But from our mistakes, we’ve learned to build systems that better protect performer consent. We want the knowledge that we’ve accumulated to be accessible to the broader industry, so that producers understand how consent can function, and so that performers on every set can feel safer and more in control. We don’t believe that safer sets should be marketplace advantage.”

The Kink Consent Resource page includes links to a variety of checklists, similar to those used by producers that work with Kink.com. A basic checklist, suitable for even vanilla scenes, can be downloaded as a PDF or in an editable format. Additional supplementary documents, including checklists specific for BDSM, fetish and male-male scenes are also available.

Kink.com has also included its shooting protocols, and as well as links to resources for performers, such as mental-health resource Pineapple Support and the adult industry trade association, Free Speech Coalition.

“Our team has begun talking with producers and performers about how these can be implemented successfully," Boden said. "We have built the largest BDSM and fetish company in the world using these principles, and they’ve made us a stronger, more successful company. Consent-based protocols aren’t just a moral obligation to our performers; they’re good business sense.”
