LAS VEGAS, NV—Free Speech Coalition will host a media training session for adult workers at 2:30 p.m. this Friday at Studio B, in Hard Rock Hotel’s Paradise Tower, during the Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE). The free workshop will be led by FSC Communications Director Mike Stabile, and will focus on how to navigate press interactions from Twitter to the red carpet.
“Over the past few years, media has become more interested in giving adult workers a voice,” said Stabile. “In many ways, this has been amazing. However, we’ve also seen privacy violations, out-of-context quotes, disparagement and incorrect facts. We created this workshop to help performers and others know their rights when dealing with media, and to give them tools to give them more control during the interview process.”
The interactive workshop will cover the basics of how to handle a media interview, including how to evaluate a press opportunity, how to communicate off-the-record, how to give accurate information and how to correct misinformation, and how to navigate hostile questions. Stabile will work with performers to address common misconceptions, answer questions about performers' own experiences with the press, and talk about real-life examples, such as Hot Girls Wanted and the #metoo movement.
Prior to joining the FSC, Stabile worked as a journalist covering the adult industry, and has written for outlets including Buzzfeed, Daily Beast, Playboy and The New York Times. His consulting firm, Polari Media, has advised numerous companies in the adult space on media strategy, including Kink.com, xHamster and the Prop 60 campaign.
“Media interactions should be like on-set interactions: safe, sane and consensual,” said Stabile. “I want to help people contribute to the conversation without opening themselves up to unintended consequences.”
