Those attending Woodhull's Sexual Freedom Summit in Washington, DC, September 21-23, will find a full day of panels and interactive workshops that explore many of the issues being addressed in the sexual freedom movement. In light of the up-coming election, the Summit theme, "Prohibition Politics: The Assault on Sexual Freedom," is especially timely.
After being welcomed by Woodhull's Board Chair, Hardy Haberman, attendees can join Human Rights activists Ajamu Baraka, Ejim Dike and Woodhull's Executive Director, Ricci Levy, for a fast-paced discussion "Human Beings, Human Rights, and Sexual Freedom". Then comes the hard part: Choosing which of the twelve incredible workshops to attend during the three exciting sessions.
Session One:
• 21st Century Families: Cultural and Legal Shifts toward Family Freedoms
• Nudity and Simulated Sex: What Can't We See, Where, When, How?
• Sex, HIV, Criminalization and the Destruction of Desire
• Sexual Rights for Disabled People: Group Homes, Grassroots and Beyond
Session Two:
• Prohibition within Ourselves and our Networks: Sometimes the Biggest Problem of All?
• Sacred Sexuality and Erotic Communion, the Human Experience
• Sex Work: Policy and Policing
• Customized Relationships and Nonviolent Activism
Session Three:
• A Moral Dilemma: Getting Off or Getting Nothing
• Bucking the System - Sex and Gender Rights
• Reproductive Justice, Public Opinion, and Developing a Shared Narrative
• Sex Positive Conversations About Sexual Minorities
We'll bring the Institute to a close with our Vicki Sexual Freedom Award recipients discussing the up-coming election, human rights in the United States, and the path to a future where sexual freedom is fully recognized as a fundamental human right.
