TANGIPOAH PARISH, La. - Parish Council members approved a new ordinance restricting adult businesses that was based on a proposal submitted by a so-called pro-family legal group.
The new measure was adapted from a proposal submitted to the council by the Alliance Defense Fund’s Senior Legal Counsel, Mike Johnson, who also helped draft the ordinance, the Agape Press reported.
Johnson said the ordinance is meant to curb adult business’ potential “harmful secondary effects.”
The measure, which took effect immediately upon passage earlier this month, outlines what the business, its owners and employees may do as well as requiring new stringent permit process that requires criminal background checks, hours of operation, health code, signage and architectural requirements.
“Local groups and other communities ought to feel empowered by this and really could take the same action as these concerned citizens,” Johnson said.
