LONGVIEW, Tx. - A pair of adult stores are hoping to set up shop in the town of Longview, but aren't getting much support from area residents. According to recent reports, local business owners are protesting against the two shops in an effort to keep the town porn-free.
Longview has an ordinance regulating adult businesses in place, but the law has never been tested. Both stores plan to locate in a legal zone, away from schools, churches and residential communities.
“I don't see anything wrong with this business, it's something we do all over the United States, and we're free to do the business that people want,” Buddy Robinson, who said he’s looking to open an “adult super store” in Longview, told KLTV News. “I chose [the spot] because it's about the only legal location left in the city.”
Some area business owners have gathered signatures in an attempt to keep Robinson and his business out of the city. A petition was sent off to the police department earlier this week.
"We get business from every aspects of life,” Robinson continued. “We'll have lawyers, teachers, policemen…everyone that wants to go to an adult store, they're free to go there.”
The Longview Police Department has 30 days to review the requests and decide whether a permit will be issued. If all the legal criteria are met, it would a Constitutional violation to prohibit the businesses from opening.
