WASHINGTON, D.C.—Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance has announced the appointment of Dr. Susan A. Milstein as director of education and outreach. Woodhull is an organization that is devoted to the full-time pursuit of securing recognition of sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.
“Susan Milstein has advocated for the right to personal autonomy—to make our decisions about our bodies—and for lifetime sexuality education for decades,” said Ricci Levy, founder and executive director of the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance. “Sue will be very active in building and strengthening Woodhull’s capacity in sexual and human rights education, organizing, and advocacy.”
Milstein is an author, a professor of health enhancement at Montgomery College and a part-time faculty member at George Washington University, and a well-known advocate for sexual freedom, particularly for comprehensive sexuality education. She is also founder and lead consultant of Milstein Health Consulting. A master certified health education specialist and a certified sexuality educator, Milstein has spoken nationally and internationally on a wide variety of health and sexuality topics.
In addition to serving on the advisory board for the Men’s Health Network, and as an active member of the Sexuality and Aging Consortium, Milstein is also the editor of Sex Ed in the Digital Age and associate editor of Teaching Safer Sex, Volumes I and II.
Milstein said of her appointment, “As an educator and a human rights advocate, I am excited to have an opportunity to reach beyond traditional avenues of learning I look forward to crafting programs and creating opportunities that will change the way people learn about sexuality and help them live their lives in ways that reflect our fundamental human right to sexual freedom.”
As diirector of education and outreach, Milstein will oversee the process of workshop selection for Woodhull's annual Sexual Freedom Summit. She will also direct outreach to colleges and universities, will collaborate with the director of research on reports on the state of sexual freedom in the United States, and will participate in the formation and advising of a youth advisory council.
