WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court has given the solicitor general another month to request a review of the federal appeals court decision on the FCC broadcast indecency policy.
The Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York found earlier this year that the FCC failed to justify its crackdown on profanity and "fleeting expletives" following the commission's uproar over language heard during the Fox Billboard Music Awards.
The solicitor general now has until Oct. 4 to decide whether or not the case will proceed to the Supreme Court. The original deadline had been set for Sept. 2.
Early reports speculate that the extension is more a matter of bureaucracy than an indication that the FCC has improved its chances of overturning the appeals court ruling.
