DENVER - According to his official bio, Colorado Rep. Ted Harvey (R-Highlands Ranch) fondly recalls a time when "by the grace of God, the conservative movement led by Ronald Reagan took control of the White House and saved a nation and a world that was lost and without hope."
Now, the Douglas County legislator is taking aim at one of the world's great evils: the sale of porn mags to teenage boys.
Colorado's Senate Judiciary Committee voted 4-2 Wednesday in favor of Senate Bill 125, a bill sponsored by Harvey which makes the sale or distribution of pornographic material to minors a class 2 misdemeanor.
“Overwhelming research shows that the viewing of pornography as a minor has a very harmful affect on children,” said Harvey. “This often results in early sexual experimentation. The preponderance of evidence also shows that a large percentage of sexual offenders are addicted to porn.”
The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
“Senate Bill 125 is an attempt to protect minors from material that has been deemed harmful,” said Harvey. “It is long overdue.”
Harvey might want to consider staking out certain sections of the Sears catalog, National Geographic and reruns of "Gilligan's Island" - for the sake of the children.
