McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Oregon town of McMinnville has decided to make a public spectacle out of porn destruction as a local probation officer drove an 8-ton double roller over a cache of confiscated pornography during the weekend.
According to a recent report, the porn tapes were found at the residence of a 73-year-old sex offender. Community Corrections Director Richard Sly told the McMinnville News-Register that stash was an “extensive deviant history. This is not the norm. I've been doing this for 18 years, and I've never seen anyone with this type of collection. The most I've ever seen is a box to a box-and-a-half.”
“[Probation Officer] Randy [Settell] and another probation officer, Daphne Bach, did a home visit on a sex offender who is on probation,” Sly told the News-Register. “If you're on probation for a sex offense, one of your restrictions is that you're not allowed to have any pornographic material, printed or otherwise."
The man was told that the officers would be doing a follow-up visit and he should dispose of the pornography. After returning, the officers found that the man had boxed the videos up, but hadn’t thrown them out. The tapes were then seized.
“No decision has been made regarding what to do with this probationer,” County Counsel John Gray told the News-Register. “The case is in the investigatory mode pending a decision by his probation officer (Bach). That's where I'm coming from. When a decision is made, whether it's a sanction or he goes to court, the name will have to be released. His probation officer…will make her decision after consulting with the district attorney.”
Settell said labels on the videos suggested the man had been buying them online.
