Operation Condor London Raids Net 1000 'Extreme' Porn DVDs

LONDON—Police unleashed an estimated 4,000 officers onto unsuspecting Londoners this weekend in a series of raids looking for unlicensed goods dubbed Operation Condor. In addition to "sat navs, iPhones and cosmetic products worth thousands of pounds," the coppers found and confiscated 1,000 porn DVDs they described as "extreme," according to the London Evening Standard.

More than 400 people were also arrested during the raids, which took place over 48 hours on Friday and Saturday. They were "the sixth batch to be carried out under Operation Condor, which has led to more than 20,000 arrests in total so far, Scotland Yard said."

A police spokesperson commented, "Licensing related crime affects many of our daily activities—from shops and supermarkets who sell knives or alcohol to young people and pubs and clubs who increase the risk of anti social behavior and violence by not ensuring alcohol is sold responsibly.

"We will continue to commit resources to these problems in order to reduce crime and increase public confidence," he added.

In addition to goods, people were also checked to see if they were properly licensed. According to the paper, "Police also targeted brothels and checked sex workers' identification cards, as well as scrutinizing bars, pubs and clubs."

The confiscated "extreme" porn was found in North London. In September, another raid in South London netted 100,000 DVDs alleged to contain "hardcore porn."
