New York Town to Hold Strip Club Vote

TONAWANDA, N.Y. - The town will decide whether they approve of a new strip club on Monday as a public hearing has been scheduled on the application of Mustang Sally's Spirits & Grill to operate a restaurant and adult entertainment cabaret.

Buffalo currently operates under a zoning code which limits adult-oriented businesses to nonresidential areas. It also requires a special performance standards use permit.

"Obviously, an adult cabaret is not one of the better uses of land that could be used for commercial purposes," Town Supervisor Ronald H. Moline told The Buffalo News. "But under the provisions of the zoning law…it's an allowable use."

According to the report, last month, the town's Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend approval of the permit, noting that board might not necessarily be in favor of the business but could not prohibit them.

The Board included two provisions: that signs meet town code and not face the freeway, and that all exterior lighting be pointed directly downward.

According to the report, it is estimated that the business would generate more than 30 jobs, according to documents on file.
