CHATSWORTH, Calif. - The Charles City Council has declared a tentative agreement with Family Video "null and void," after not hearing from developers for over two weeks after a July 1 deadline.
The proposed deal offering developers a financial incentive to open a Family Video store raised controversy after it was discovered that some Family Video locations include "adult rooms" within the store. Several residents then spoke out against the development agreement.
However, Family Video Inc. never officially confirmed nor denied that it intended to have an adult room in its Charles City store.
"No one from the City, that I am aware of, has heard from Family Video and neither has[Community Development Director] Jim Thompson," said city attorney Ralph Smith.
"Since they are not returning calls and the sale didn't go through by the July 1 deadline, I am assuming the deal is not going through," added Thompson.
