JOHOR BAHARU, Malaysia – Local authorities arrested four men for possessing 1,145 pirated adult DVDs during a raid of a house near Skudai. The adult titles were among 50,000 other pirated discs.
Johor Commercial CID head Supt Wong Chong Fooi told Berita Wilayah that the men, aged between 18 and 37, were arrested on Friday and charged at the Magistrate's Court with possessing the pornographic discs.
All of the seized discs were handed over to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
In Malaysia, a pornographic title will fetch an average of three more ringgits than that of a mainstream release. The Motion Picture Association of America has placed Malaysia among the world's main producers and exporters of pirated discs.
According to the Malaysian government, five million discs were seized in more than 2,000 raids nationwide last year, and 780 people were arrested. Most of the pirated DVDs found in Malaysia’s major cities originated in the United States and Europe.
