DETROIT – An assistant U.S. attorney from Florida has been arrested on suspicion that he traveled to Detroit over the weekend to have sex with a minor. John David R. Atchison was arraigned in U.S. District Court today, after being charged with enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Atchison’s arrest was part of an undercover sting operation in which an officer posed as a mother offering her 5-year-old girl for sex, according to the Associated Press.
According to reports, Atchison, who is also the president of a youth athletics organization in Florida, solicited the detective working undercover, and was arrested at the airport upon arrival in Detroit.
According to the AP, in deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that “you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents.”
When the undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old, Atchison responded: “I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice…Just gotta go slow and very easy. I've done it plenty.”
