FSC to Update Producers, Directors at AEE on Condom Threats

NOTE: The correct[ed] date for the FSC AEE meeting is Thursday, January 21.

CANOGA PARK, Calif.—Free Speech Coalition is starting the new year off with a bang, sponsoring a meeting of adult content producers and directors as well as web hosts and distributors about the threat posed by the AIDS Healthcare-sponsored "Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act" ballot initiative, which would require condoms and other barrier protections to be used in all California-shot sex scenes, as well as urging everyone who works in and/or supports the adult entertainment industry to attend the next CalOSHA Standards Board meeting in February, where it is expected that the adult industry-targeted Section 5193.1 will be approved for adding to California's Health Code.

"I am writing to highlight two critical issues that will impact adult content in 2016," wrote FSC CEO Diane Duke in an open letter to adult producers, directors and distributors. "The first is the Weinstein ballot initiative in California. You need to know about this issue! This disastrous initiative impacts all  producers, distributors, performers—or anyone with a financial interest in a non-condom film, scene, cam show or webcast. And when I say 'non-condom,' that means for EVERYTHING—including girl-girl and oral."

The meeting will take place on Thursday, January 21 at 6 p.m. in Studio 1A in the Paradise Tower at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, just steps away from everything else that will be happening at the Adult Entertainment Expo.

Regarding the CalOSHA Standards Board, Duke wrote, "The CalOSHA Standards Board is having a meeting February 18 at 10 a.m. in Oakland. We need as many people as possible to show up to that meeting and let the Standards Board know that we oppose the CalOSHA's staff-proposed regulations. We are asking industry producers not to schedule shoots on that day and to assist as many of their people as possible to attend that meeting.

"Do not schedule production of February 18th and bring as many performers and staff as possible to the CalOSHA Standard's Board Meeting," she emphasized.

The CalOSHA Standards Board meeting will take place in the auditorium of the Harris State Building, 1515 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94612, and attendees are advised to arrive on time as the 5193.1 revision may be one of the first items on the agenda.
