SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Delegates from the adult entertainment industry will visit Sacramento to meet with lawmakers for the 11th annual Celebrate Free Speech Lobbying Day event set for April 20 and 21.
The event is sponsored by the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult entertainment industry. For one day, the idea is to create citizen lobbyists out of adult entertainment performers, business owners, professionals and supporters.
Diane Duke, executive director for the Free Speech Coalition said, "The question we have to ask ourselves is do we want people at the California state capitol making decisions about adult entertainment when they don't understand how the industry works or who works within it. More than 50,000 people are employed by the [adult] industry in California, and their lives are impacted by these lawmakers."
The schedule for the two-day event includes a lobby training session on Sunday, April 20, that will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Monday, April 21, the delegates will meet with lawmakers and enjoy a reception. This begins at 9 a.m. and will culminate with the Free Speech Legislative Reception at 6 p.m.
The reception and related workshop will be held at Chops Steak Seafood & Bar, located at 1117 11th St., Sacramento, Calif.
Attendees will be staying at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, located at 1230 J St., Sacramento, Calif.
FSC lobbyist Matt Gray noted of the topics being discussed, "Legislation that is being bantered about includes additional taxes upon adult entertainment and additional government regulation of production sets. It is critical that our elected officials comprehend the vital role this $4 billion California industry plays in our economy so they understand that what's bad for the adult entertainment industry is bad for California."
