MIAMI—Frequent Bang Bros performer Raul Armenteros, aka Ramon, has pleaded guilty to 21 counts of animal cruelty stemming from his July 2011 arrest.
Armenteros was arrested after Miami police were called to a parked van that passersby thought contained a crying child. Instead of a child, however, police discovered 21 animals in distress from the heat. Eight roosters, four guinea hens, four pigeons, four goats and one duck were inside a van.
The 47-year-old Armenteros cut a deal with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office to plead guilty to one felony and 20 misdemeanors, and was sentenced to time served and fined $11,513 in penalties. He also was put on probation for five years and was ordered to serve 200 hours of community service. He had no prior record.
Armenteros and his attorney explained that his animals were to be used in a Santeria religious ritual.
“These were not for acts of violence but religious rituals,” Armenteros’ attorney Anthony Alvarez told Gossip Extra. “There’s a lot of hypocrisy here. The same people who were screaming about this are probably having a steak right now.”
