The Coronet strip club in Sandy Springs was all but set to be demolished by an Atlanta-based developer, to be replaced by an office and retail building. Several area residents, however, were against the proposed development, citing traffic congestion and stormwater runoff problems.
According to a recent report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, developer Tom Kirbo has now withdrawn his proposal to rezone the 6.7-acre site and the strip club, at least for now, has beat out some city officials' wishes.
"I'm all for smart development in Sandy Springs, but this is not the right fit," resident Mark Sampl told the Journal Constitution. "It's inconsistent with the land-use plan — it [the plan] allows five units per acre, not 27, it allows 67,250 square foot of office, not 72,000, and it allows for two stories, not five."
Both the Planning Commission and the Design Review Board unanimously denied Kirbo's application before he finally withdrew the proposal.
