A conservative group is circulating a petition aimed at restricting strip club and other adult businesses in Ohio.
Citizens for Community Values, based here, has begun circulating what it calls the Community Defense Act, which would ban lap dances and reduce operating hours for adult businesses.
The group said in a statement that it wants to “ensure that the adult business industry in Ohio would be regulated in order to minimize their negative effects of increased crime (sexual crimes, prostitution, illegal drugs, etc.), decreased property values of the surrounding residential and business property, and the devastation brought to so many marriages and families.”
The proposed measure would ban lap dances by requiring exotic dancers to maintain a 6-foot distance from patrons, as well as require all adult businesses to be closed between midnight and 6 a.m.
The proposal is based upon federal court decisions, the group said.
