China’s Online Video Regulator Bans All Human Behavior

NUTSVILLE—It’s not easy to juxtapose the $9 billion+ day Alibaba had on Tuesday with yesterday’s order by China media regulator SAPPRFT that all video streaming websites must delete “programs depicting extramarital affairs, polyamorous relationship, one-night stands, sexual abuse, or containing pornographic content.”

Global Times reported, “It also said that video depicting rape, fornication, necrophilia, prostitution or masturbation also should be cut. Video websites are required to remove headlines with text or pictures referring to sex and nudity. Plots depicting violent murder, suicides, kidnapping, drug abuse, gambling or supernatural occurrences should be cut."

So, one might well ask, what the heck are those millions of Chinese citizens who just shelled out all that money in one day, for exactly the sorts of electronics that exist to stream video on websites, going to watch?

To illustrate the Mao-era absurdity SAPPRFT is trying to force down the people’s collective throat, Global Times noted that the regulator “said that websites should closely examine videos with tags like ‘hot dancing,’ ‘beauties’ and ‘originals.’”

Even accounting for loose translation, the Chinese will have another revolution on their hands if they continue this way.

Global Times explained, “Many Web users claimed that after implementing this regulation, Chinese audience will have no films or dramas to watch.”

Well, that's okay; instead of having their brains polluted, they can be productive and get online to buy more iThings from Apple, which also kind of discourages exposing people to all that messy human stuff.
