CORK, Ireland – The Criminal Assets Bureau raided 17 different area sex shops and gentlemen’s clubs yesterday in what they said was an investigation into money laundering.
A number of follow-up searches were also carried out over-night in connection with the raids on strip clubs and sex shops in Cork.
Up to 100 officers were employed to search massage parlours, strip clubs and sex shops during the operation which began early yesterday morning.
Detectives from the Criminal Assets Bureau and local police carried out the raids.
Authorities told Ireland On-Line that they seized substantial amounts of “cash, documents, video tapes and DVDs from a number of premises.”
The report went on to say that tt is understood that authories will begin sifting through the documentation over the coming days, while forensic accountants will examine them for tax compliance.
The report said that the investigation is also focusing on rumors of human trafficking and prostitution.
