PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — The Prescott Valley Town Council examined recommended revisions Thursday to a 2003 ordinance regulating adult businesses.
Cynthia Corcoran, paralegal to town attorney Ivan Legler, told the council that the proposed ordinance "just tries to clarify what we want to cover." The revisions define "adult services," ban "sexual encounter
centers," broaden the classification of sexually oriented businesses
and establish additional licensing requirements for such businesses.
The revisions were based on zoning regulations in other Arizona communities, and councilman Bob Edwards expressed concern that the town be "very careful" with the language of the amended ordinance to avoid potential lawsuits.
"We have gone from the 'nude bar' concept to the 'cabaret,'" Edwards remarked.
Legler and Corcoran said they knew of no adult businesses currently operating in Prescott Valley. The council may approve a revised ordinance at its next meeting Jan. 24.
