HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—On Sunday night, the Str8UpGayPorn Awards took over the Avalon nightclub for a show headlined by Kathy Griffin. The comedian took to the job at hand with enthusiasm, starting off with a monologue commenting on the categories and some of her favorite movie titles. One bit got the biggest laugh (and cheers) of the night: “I'm kind of rooting for Get Your Dick Outta My Son,” she said, going on to suggest some variants, including Get Your Dick Outta My White House.
Other highlights: Before presenting the Best Newcomer award to Rhyheim Shabazz, presenter Ty Mitchell—last year’s winner—offered advice to new performers: “Finish your antibiotics course, don’t fuck with Boomer Banks, and always ask for more money.”
Best Actor winner Sean Ford used the opportunity to second Griffin’s sentiments and urged the crowd to get out and vote in the 2020 election. “Fuck Trump. Peace and love,” he summarized. And Performer of the Year winner Blake Mitchell went even heavier on the peace and love, expressing gratitude for the honor and thanking the event organizer, publicist Davyd Dixon.
About midway through the show came the presentation by Men.com performer Matthew Camp of a Lifetime Achievement award to Durk Dehner, the man behind of the Tom of Finland Foundation. Founded to honor the memory of Touko Valio Laaksonen, better known as Tom of Finland, the organization preserves the iconic artist's Los Angeles home as a treasure trove of erotic art and is dedicated to protecting erotic art and promoting erotic arts education.
