L.A. Native Dakota Wonders Finds His Niche in Adult Industry

LOS ANGELES—When Dakota Wonders entered the adult industry in 2022, the budding gay porn performer quickly realized that talent is just one part of being successful.

“With this industry, even if you didn’t make it big, there is a niche for everyone. And so is finding your own niche, so as long as I am consistent and putting out quality content, I may not be as big as some of the other guys,” said the 26-year-old L.A. native. “But I know I will be able to build a following on my own. I’m competing essentially with myself to put out that content to keep up that consistency and build that brand.”

Although he’s relatively new to the business, Wonders has been making inroads and growing his fan base with his unique content featuring some of the industry’s popular performers.

Posting on social media and creating content are among his passions and key to growing his fan base and rise within the industry, he says.

“I view as I need to do this amount of stuff this week because when I don’t I can see the drop off in like engagement so It’s very much a business,” he said. “I don’t post my beliefs on Twitter. This is a business.”

Growing up in an L.A. suburb, Wonders was always an athletic kid, playing basketball, baseball and gymnastics. But by the time he graduated high school, he became fascinated by the adult
industry.

“I always been interested in that since I was 18 and I considered doing it,” he said. “So it appealed to me, but my thing was I never wanted to start unless I found or met someone who
was able to give you the guidance to do it. I didn’t want to start on my own without knowing anything.”

Luckily for Wonders, he worked at a gay bar where he met a porn producer who gave him valuable advice about entering the industry.

“I finally met the conditions that I had for myself. The universe put this in front of me, might as well make the most of it,” he recalled.

He would go on to work with a number of top performers, including Tony Genius, Matthew Figata and others who have left an indelible impression on the young stud.

“I definitely picked up a few things, especially from Tony Genius,” he said. “He’s a charismatic and energetic guy on and off camera and I definitely cannot match the level of energy in the way he does. But being friendly and being open and keeping everything light is important. Just make it a good environment because we’re doing a job at the end of the day, but you can keep it fun.”

Having shot for Squirt Studios recently and with more shoots coming up, Wonders is excited for future in the industry. But he’s not letting up, as he continues to network and soak in the knowledge and advice of his industry contemporaries.

“One of the things I’ve learned is you really have to be true to yourself and the minute you’re fake, you may burn bright, but you’re going to burn out,” he said. “This has to be something you enjoy doing or are happy doing, because if you’re not, it starts to transfer on camera badly. People can tell when you’re not being genuine. It may work for a short while, but you won’t have longevity.”
