CYBERSPACE—Fans of gay adult entertainment have an opportunity to see Seed Money, a documentary on Falcon Studios founder Chuck Holmes, airing as part of a Pride Month programming block on Sundance Now, AMC Networks' premium streaming service. The collection, titled “Take 5: Beyond the Parades,” will begin broadcasting June 7.
One of the five original LGBTQ-themed documentaries that make up the collection, Seed Money follows the rise and fall of Holmes, who was a trendsetter in gay adult entertainment and also became an influencer in the mainstream world.
Seed Money premiered at FilmOut San Diego where it was nominated for Best Documentary. It went on to screen at over 40 festivals worldwide, including the Cleveland International Film Festival, where it was again nominated for Best Documentary. It has been available on DVD and video-on-demand.
AVN reviewed Seed Money when it was shown in Los Angeles during Outfest in July of 2015, and spoke with its creator, Michael Stabile, about both the film and Holmes himself.
Describing Holmes, who began his movie career in 1971, as "an Indiana farmboy, but he had a head for business," Stabile noted that Holmes had been dissatisfied with the gay films available at the time.
"Chuck looked around, saw that it was a bunch of hippies running around shooting films vaguely illegally; said, 'I think I can do it better'; borrowed some money, bought a mailing list and he was off and running," Stabile summarized.
