BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—Award-winning online studio CockyBoys has released its first DVD. Born to Fuck stars Sebastian Young, Wolf Hudson, Phenix Saint and Jesse Santana.
One week into the distribution cycle, Euro Media Distribution Product Manager Hugo Harley said the title is performing well.
It had a “very strong first week,” he said, although he declined to give sales figures. “We are thrilled with the first week numbers online, and at this point almost every major retailer in the country is carrying it. The title has sold more in the first week than some titles sell in a full run these days.”
Both Harley and CockyBoys owner Kyle Majors attributed part of the new title’s early success to a partnership with online retailer StudMall.com. The e-tailer was among the first to offer Born to Fuck, sweetening the deal for consumers by listing the DVD at $10 off the suggested retail price.
When mainstream Hollywood insider Majors acquired CockyBoys in 2006, he admitted he wasn’t sure what to do with the site other than to have fun with the process and provide a place where performers felt “at home.” After reworking the studio and its website from the ground up, Majors set about signing exclusive contracts not only with intriguing gay industry newcomers, but also with well-known brick-and-mortar performers like Santana and Hudson. Earlier this year CockyBoys announced production partnerships for both online and traditional DVD products.
The second DVD in the CockyBoys line, First Time Fucked, is expected to be released in January. The title features gay-for-pay cage fighter and notoriously attitudinal bad boy Brodie Sinclair, who is topped for the first time by fellow fighter RC Ryan.
In the meantime, CockyBoys has been lining up awards nominations. After being named “Best Amateur Website” during the 2009 Cybersocket Awards and winning the first-ever Grabby Award for “Best Web Based Porn Studio” (also in 2009), the company is among those nominated in the “Outstanding Adult Website” category for the 9th annual Weho Awards, which will be presented during a gala benefit in January. CockyBoys also is in the running for “Best Original Content” and “Best Amateur Website” at the 10th Annual Cybersocket Awards, due to be announced in February.
