NEW YORK—Boy Butter, a brand of personal lubricants specifically designed for gay men, has produced a number of commercials that air during a various hit cable TV shows, but one apparently proved too much for Comcast in the Midwest.
The commercial—which features Seth Fornea wearing just a yellow apron with the Boy Butter logo on it and working a wooden butter churn—was banned by the cable company from airing during the current season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The commercial was scheduled to air in Chicago; it continues to air on VH1 in Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City and nationwide in Canada on OutTV.
“Our intention with this commercial was to make a gay version of the sexy Super Bowl ads and tame it down to be as ‘PG’ as possible, so as to avoid this type of ban,” Eyal Feldman, founder and CEO of Boy Butter wrote in a blog post.
Comcast has not yet issued a statement on the ban.
“I think it’s Chicago’s loss and a clear representation of how shamed and stigmatized our sexuality is,” Daniel Robinson, the director/producer of this banned Boy Butter commercial, said in Feldman’s blog post.
