MISSION HILLS, Calif. - Boulevard Distribution, founded in August, has signed its first exclusive client. ZyloCo Inc., a studio that specializes in gay films with daddy themes, has contracted Boulevard to handle worldwide distribution of its titles.
Boulevard founder and chief executive officer Andy Goode said he was impressed with ZyloCo's products from the outset. The studio is known for high production values, simple-but-arousing plotlines, debonair mature studs and real-life relationships and action - in fact, just the sorts of things that attract Goode to porn.
Formerly the sales manager for Pacific Sun Entertainment, Goode branched out on his own with the goal of representing studios exactly like ZyloCo, he told GAYVN.com.
"I'm from a different world; I consider this an art form," said the former director of a mainstream experimental theater company. "I'm a Baby Boomer, and I have a different eye for creative works. I want to see heart; real people who are really excited about doing what they're doing."
Fortunately, Goode is not alone in his desires. He said a significant market segment actively seeks content produced by and starring older men, and part of his self-imposed mission is to educate retailers on how to address those consumers.
"Consumers are attracted to great box covers, yes, but they don't like to find an uninspired product inside," he said. "I want to educate sellers about how to recognize and promote great product; get them out from behind their counters and interacting with their customers who want something besides really young men and standard adult fare."
ZyloCo produces primarily gonzo content, Goode said, but the studio's titles transcend the usual products in that category in a number of ways.
"They have a talent for stripping away the unnecessary," he opined. "They are just majestic and magnificent talents. Their work is honest, human, simple and beautifully done. It accomplishes exactly what I would want to accomplish if I were making adult films: I would want people to be moved in many different ways, not just sexually."
ZyloCo's newest feature, Bareback Muscle Daddy, "clearly shows that they are not the new kids on the block" in all those areas, Goode noted.
"Reality-based adult entertainment in its purest form is extremely rare," he said. "ZyloCo's work is so hot and so real that frankly I hate to part with the DVDs. I would like to keep all of them for myself."
The ZyloCo library consists of 23 films. All are based on the loving relationship of the principals, Tony and Cam, each of whom Goode described as "an inspired filmmaker in his own right."
Boulevard Distribution specializes in what Goode called "must-own DVDs, the so called ‘Boulevard of Wet Dreams.'"
