LOS ANGELES—Zack Randall was named 2009 Freshman of the Year in the annual contest hosted by Freshmen magazine. The win marks Randall’s second time to secure the title, having won previously in 2007.
Randall, 24, appears on the September cover of Freshmen, on sale Aug. 18. Reader favorite Kirk Cummings came in second place, and former cover men Marcus Mojo, Dylan McLovin and Trent Davis rounded out the top five finalists, who, like the winner, are celebrated with brand-new, exclusive photo sets inside the September issue.
“The Freshman of the Year issue is an exciting, star-making opportunity for the model who’s had the biggest impact on our readers over the past 12 months,” said Freshmen Editor in Chief Winston Gieseke. “This year the race has been closer than ever before. The competition was unusually fierce, because each one of the five finalists has genuine star potential. Congratulations to Zack Randall, and we wish him the best this year.”
According to Rick Andreoli, executive editor for Freshmen parent company Unzipped Media, “The Freshman of the Year issue is always exciting for us, but the 2009 edition really exceeded our expectations. I’d like to congratulate Zack Randall, who readers love so much that they gave him the title a second time. He really seems to be the ideal Freshman. The issue features incredible styling by Freshmen’s art director, Armando Aguilar, and stunning photography from both Edendale Studios and Satori Studios, so there’s no question that this issue is special. For fans of Freshmen magazine, this one is a collector's item.”
