LOS ANGELES—Ever wonder what it’s like to work surrounded by hot guys who strip down to rock-hard bodies and monster cocks and get it on? That’s the scene adult photographer Mick Hicks steps into every day. After 20 years spent documenting the gay scene, Hicks has decided to share his “daily grind” with the rest of the world at MickHicks.com.
Loaded with photos and a point of view that—remarkably after all this time—remains as attuned to heat as any young buck’s, Hicks’ new blog keeps each entry short, sweet and focused on the action. The action gets a nice gloss, too, with posed and candid shots that reveal more about the performers and their scenes than one usually is able to discern from the resulting videos.
A veteran shooter who developed an eye for history as he documented the dawn of the gay scene in the 1980s, Hicks moved into porn more than a decade ago. Since then, he has photographed some of the biggest names in the industry: Dean Phoenix, Cody Cummings, Matthew Rush, Erik Rhodes, Brent Corrigan, Zack Randall and others. He continues to function as the “glamour” still-image guy for popular gay studios like BelAmi, COLT, Falcon, Channel 1 Releasing, Dirty Bird Pictures, Hot House and Next Door Studios.
“Over the years I’ve gotten to know [the performers] like no one else, and I wanted to tell their stories not just in pictures but words, too,” Hicks said. “This blog will be about what happens on and off the set: the personalities, the ups and downs, the relationships.”
