Trannywood to Exhibit ‘Couch Surfers' at Festival

SAN FRANCISCO - Transsexual studio Trannywood Pictures will screen parts of its second film, Couch Surfers: Trans Men in Action, Nov. 8 during Trannyfest.

Trannyfest, an annual celebration of all things transsexual, occurs throughout November in various venues around San Francisco.

Couch Surfers previously was shown at the Paris Porn Film Festival and the Gay and Lesbian Film Fest of Paris. It also is scheduled to screen during Pornotopia in Albuquerque Nov. 16-18 and the Perv Queerotic International Film Fest Dec. 4-7 in Sydney, Australia.

Founded in March 2006, Trannywood Pictures was conceived as an experimental project in affiliation with Eros - the Center for Safe Sex. The company's first film was the GAYVN Award-nominated Cubbyholes.

Trannywood focuses on female-to-male transsexuals and in addition to films provides safe-sex advice and other community resources. The company's films reflect those choices, as they include diverse body types and show trans and non-trans performers interacting and negotiating safe sex.

"There are no magically appearing condoms in our films, and it's not unusual for gloves or other latex layers to show up," Trannywood talent coordinator Dex Hardlove said.

Trannywood's Ken Rowe added, "It's very important that we are able to showcase Couch Surfers back in San Francisco and within such a cutting-edge arts festival like Trannyfest."

Couch Surfers will screen at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory, located at 1519 Mission at 11th Street.
