SAN FRANCISCO - Titan Media, parent company of gay adult brand TitanMen, has released what the company said is the world's first gay adult high-definition film on Blu-ray Disc. Breakers: 1080 High Definition Blu-ray Director's Edit is available at the TitanMen website and select retail stores in the U.S.
"It is now clear that the HD format war has ended and Blu-ray high-def has won," said Titan founder, president and chief executive officer Bruce Cam, alluding to the recent departure of Toshiba's rival HD DVD format from the market. "Our customers can now feel comfortable purchasing Blu-ray players and films knowing that it is the only HD format going forward. I am also very proud that once again TitanMen is leading the way forward with the highest-quality new technology and leading the gay adult industry in innovation."
Cam directed the three-plus hour title, which he said was filmed and mastered in full 1080i high-definition widescreen format. Titan Media made the transition to shooting 1080i HD films in mid-2007; Breakers is the company's first feature filmed using the technology. TitanMen employs two matching $30,000 Panasonic AJ HDX-900 cameras - the same equipment used to shoot HD content for television and mainstream indie films - in its efforts. Each of the cameras is enhanced with a $30,000 Fujinon wide-angle lens to capture every detail of the director's vision. Filming is done in the broadcast standard DVCPROHD format, offering color rendition Cam called "vastly superior over the consumer-level HDV format trumpeted by other studios." In all, the company has invested more than $300,000 in cameras, lenses and Mac G5 HD editing and authoring suites, Cam noted.
"We are very proud that Breakers is the first gay adult film released on Blu-ray," Cam said. "Breakers is truly one of the finest gay adult films ever made. Its outdoor panoramic scope is the perfect choice to show the world what Blu-ray high-definition gay adult films should look like. Once consumers have seen the stunning quality of a TitanMen Blu-ray film, nothing else will compare."
Titan vice president Keith Webb is impressed, too.
"I have seen the future and its name is Blu-ray," he said. "Once consumers have gotten a look at our films in glorious widescreen[-format], Blu-ray high-def, they will never go back to standard DVD or online streaming. Watching TitanMen films in Blu-ray is like watching live action going on right in front of you: it feels like you can almost reach out and touch the performers. This is truly the biggest leap forward in entertainment technology, far surpassing the leap from VHS to DVD. You have not seen hardcore action until you've seen it in Blu-ray high-def on a 50-inch widescreen HDTV."
Breakers features 13 men, including 11 TitanMen exclusives, in seven outdoor scenes. It will be available at TLA Video's website on March 28. Retailers and distributors may contact Charles LeBlanc for ordering information.
A Blu-ray Disc player or Sony Playstation 3 is required to view Blu-ray Discs; they cannot be played on a standard DVD player.
