SAN FRANCISCO - Steve Cruz and Leif Gobo have signed on as a team to direct for Falcon Entertainment's Mustang Studios.
The pair's debut film, Blue Movie, will be an homage to the porn flicks of the 1970s and early '80s. Anchored by Zak Spears, Dillon Buck, Nick Piston and CJ Madison with additional performances by Nick Moretti, Scott Campbell, Colton Steele and Adam Herst, principle photography is expected to begin in late September.
Cruz has been in the adult entertainment industry for about three years. During that time he has collected Raging Stallion's 2008 Man of the Year award, the 2008 Grabby Award for Best Newcomer, a GAYVN Award and two Hard Choice Awards (Best Newcomer and Performer of the Year). In addition to starring in more than 15 gay adult films since his debut in 2006, he also wrote the screenplay of, and cast and starred in Raging Stallion's Hotter Than Hell Part 1 and Part 2.
"We at Raging Stallion are very excited about Steve Cruz directing for Mustang Studios," Raging Stallion's Chris Ward said. "He showed his talent as a writer and behind-the-scenes coordinator on Hotter Than Hell, and I expect him to have a very successful career as he moves from in front of the camera to behind it. Personally, I really look forward to seeing his films. He is one of my favorite persons in the industry."
Cruz said, "I've had the rare opportunity of working with some of the best creative minds in the industry. Because of the generosity of Raging Stallion Studios, Chi Chi LaRue and Titan's Brian Mills, I have learned how a production is built from the ground up. As a performer I always try to bring something extra to the screen, so I am very excited about the chance to do the same behind the scenes as a director."
Gobo's 12 years of industry experience include just about every aspect of film production including lighting, camera, editing, directing and occasionally performing. Gobo began his career under the direction of Steven Scarborough at Hot House Entertainment, then moved on to serve as director of videography at Raging Stallion. Since 2006 he has served as Falcon Entertainment's director of videography. Gobo's first directing credit with Falcon was the 2007 Mustang film Limits, on the set of which he met Cruz, who was a cast member.
"When I met Steve on the set of Limits I knew he was destined to become a gay-porn luminary," Gobo said. "I have enjoyed watching his growth in the industry, and I am very excited about fostering his segue into film directing with this collaboration.
Cruz added, "It's the perfect creative partnership. We met and immediately had the same vision for a line of films that make a return to the basics of good porn: the chemistry of hot sex. From the start it just felt right. I am eager to learn from his technical expertise and collaborate on ideas."
"The sexually charged energy and meticulous attention to detail of Steve Cruz coupled with the talented technical and videography expertise of Leif Gobo make for a perfect fit within our ongoing ‘guest director' program," said Falcon director of production Adam Q. Robinson. "We are incredibly excited by their passion, creative energy, combined industry experience and commitment to this project."
Added director of promotion Troy Prickett, "Their talents will be evident when Blue Movie is released in December of 2008. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with this talented team."
