SAN FRANCISCO - The Second Annual Mr. Muscle Bear Cub Contest is scheduled to take place Friday at Truck. The event will help kick off Bear Week, which culminates in the Hairrison Street Fair on Sunday. The Mr. Muscle Bear Cub Contest is an official event of Bear Week.
Tom Orr returns as emcee of the event and plans to perform his satirical original song about muscle bear cubs lamenting the struggle for acceptance in the world of burlier bears. Orr is appearing in a one-man songfest, "I Feel a Thong Coming On": A Musical Comedy Cabaret for Consenting Adults at New Conservatory Theatre Center through Sept. 7.
Lavender Lounge is co-sponsoring the event with Muscle Bear Cub, a dating site for guys who want to be part of the bear community but who are younger and smaller than the typical bear. The site offers free personal ads and social-networking features.
With a free Muscle Bear Cub membership, users can upload as many as 10 photos that are seen only by other members, plus one profile photo that is seen by both members and non-members. The free membership also includes use of a discussion board and a free video-chat feature.
