Rally to Focus on Emotional Impact of Marriage Denial

LOS ANGELES - Always a Bridesmaid, a rally on behalf of marriage equality, was conceived to give visual impact to an issue of immense importance to the LGBT community.

On March 21, as many as 500 people dressed as wedding attendants will march on Los Angeles City Hall to draw attention to the emotional impact of Proposition 8.

"For LGBT California residents, weddings are now things that happen only to other people," a spokeswoman for the event said. "They can participate, but only as bridesmaids and groomsmen, never being the brides and grooms - all because of who they want waiting for them at the end of the aisle.

"Therefore, Always a Bridesmaid is asking the LGBT community and supporters to come out dressed as bridesmaids and groomsmen on March 21, in order to create a visual impact for what Prop 8 has taken away from nearly 900,000 California residents."

Featuring guest speakers and altered wedding songs, Always a Bridesmaid was tailored to illustrate what it means to be denied the right to marry.

"Come out dressed in your finest bridesmaid and groomsmen attire and show California that we all deserve the opportunity to throw the bouquet," the spokeswoman urged.

The rally will occur between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at 200 N. Spring St. More information is available at the website Always-a-Bridesmaid.org.
