The hilltop California mansion, actually a private swingers' club, has only red "mood" light bulbs in the ceiling. Photographer Mick Hicks is installing white ones to shoot stills of the gorgeous cast of The Porne Ultimatum, writer/director Mike Donner's fifth feature for Dink Flamingo's Dirty Bird Pictures.
Director Donner graciously finds time to plop down for a moment and enthuse about this project. "I'm used to creative freedom," he says. "I started as a free agent at Bijou in Chicago where they let me do a couple of rather arty movies, and at All Worlds I did movies about HIV, Republicanism, religion, gay domestic abuse. Now with Dink I've done a thriller (The Closet), two military movies (Hollywood Marine and Army Strongarm) and a comedy (GrindAsshouse). Dink wanted this fifth project to be a breakout professional role for his discovery, Kaden Saylor. So I thought, ‘Kaden's so hunky and beautiful, let's make him an action hero.' Dink loved it, only had a few little notes to make it more tailor-made for Kaden."
Kaden himself pops in, looking tailor-made for stardom. A wedge-shaped blond with features so perfect that men tilt their heads to see his face from all angles, he blushes just a bit when director of operations Steve Jerome calls him "beautiful."
Kaden brings out the compliments in people. Mason Wyler, here to work with Kaden later today (and himself as handsome as your high-school heartthrob), says admiringly, "They should call him ‘Mister Tits and Ass.'" Mick Hicks pokes his head in to volunteer, "Kaden is high on the list of the best-looking men I've ever photographed." Actor Duane Boyer, visiting the set, comments, "There were three naked men upstairs rehearsing a scene. Kaden stepped in fully dressed to steal a gun and took my attention right away from them with the power of personality he brought onstage with him. It's like Marilyn Monroe." Kaden, asked how he feels about such remarks, says simply, "It definitely improves your self-confidence, sir."
Donner must go up to direct that threeway. Producer Dink Flamingo steps in to explain the new direction he's taking with Dirty Bird Pictures. "Starting in about 1996, I made private movies of the straight Marines I picked up in North Carolina (often at Wal-Mart!). My friend Beau persuaded me to send tapes to Dirk Yates, who snapped them up and asked for more. Yates then asked me to slow down sending the tapes, but instead I started my own website, ActiveDuty, and moved to San Diego. I started Dirty Bird this year to do movies with stories and characters. My movies with the servicemen have for me always been as much about getting to know the character of each of the guys as they are about the sex. It just seemed time for me to prove that I can do what my peers do.
"I'd had my eye on Mike Donner for a while. Dirty Bird came into being with him in mind. The Porne Ultimatum is Dirty Bird's sixth feature, and the last for this year. I'll spend the rest of the year releasing this and a movie Jett Blakk made for us, Father Knows Best. I think it's very ambitious for a new young company to have issued six films in a year. My plan for 2008 is to shoot 10 Dirty Bird productions. I personally shoot all the Active Duty movies and release one about every three weeks. Active Duty's success at the very top of its niche made Dirty Bird possible, and Dirty Bird is attracting me a whole new audience beyond that niche. I see Dirty Bird doing better on the retail spectrum. And a new line, Triple X Amateur Hour with Barrett Long, putting porn stars into ‘amateur' situations, is shooting right off the charts for me."
Upstairs, in a break after shooting the steaming sex trio, Donner exults, "Dink has put together a wonderful cast. Besides Kaden and Mason, there's Barrett Long, Brant Moore, and Brent Corrigan, whom Kaden fucked yesterday on that couch you're sitting on."
There are also those three naked guys, Collin, Kasey, and Levi, veterans of the Active Duty line, who are finishing their pizza lunch naked. Tattooed Collin plays with a gold stripper's pole (part of the house's swingers' equipment).
Flamingo's friend Beau jokes, "You gonna ask for a pole for your Monday night solo webshow now, Collin?" Collin grins. He's called back for his cum-shot, but first, like any well-trained serviceman, he grabs a paper towel and wipes down that pole!
