On the Set: Oh Man! Studios' Masque

Director Jett Blakk is one of gay porn's most creative storytellers. Masque is his porn version of Edgar Allen Poe's 1842 story, The Masque of the Red Death. The twist that Blakk has given it is that instead of a mysterious fatal illness that the people in the story are afraid of, it's an insidious virus that causes its victims to have uncontollable sex.

A rich bloke, Prospero (Brett Mathews), invites his friends to his remote villa till the danger has passed. I forgot to ask Blakk why Prospero — or anyone — would be so afraid of uncontrollable sex, but this is probably explained in the movie.

Of course, just as in Poe, you can run, but... and who should crash Prospero's invitation-only masquerade ball, but The Red Man, the virus personified. He is played by Jacob Slader who is uncontrollable sex personified. Perfect casting.

The movie is one long sex scene, a 13-man group that breaks into multiple units that shrink or grow as the guys move around the room. The costumes are really good.

When I arrive, everyone is suited up and raring to go. So raring, in fact, that there's more pre-scene hanky panky than I've ever witnessed before.

Zackary Pierce, dressed out of the Arabian Nights, is reclining on a chaise, his hard-on sticking out of his pants and into Ty Hudson's mouth. Ty, dressed as a Roman centurion, blows Zackary for a while, then slides up his body to kiss him.

One of the reasons for the horniness, I learn, is that one of the scheduled models didn't show up, so starting time has been pushed back while the replacement, Danny Lopez, gets costumed and made-up. The other is that everyone is just really horny.

Once Danny is ready, Blakk places everyone in conversational groups, then tells Drew Warner, who is shooting second-camera, what he wants: "Most orgies are filmed with the focus on dicks, but I want to see faces," Blakk says. "Don't be afraid to get faces."

Someone is missing. With so many men and all the elaborate costumes it's hard to tell, but it turns out to be Ty Hudson.

"Who's he blowing?" someone asks. "He's gone to the company next door to blow someone," another says. "He'll blow anyone," a third offers. This may be true, but it turns out that he was in the toilet not blowing anyone. When Ty resumes his place, filming begins.

Since Blakk does his own videography, he directs as he walks around. As soon as Jacob, in a scarlet cape, makes his dramatic entrance, the sex-action starts.

"You all know how to have sex, so I won't be talking to you much," Blakk tells them, "but make sure you stay in position long enough for us to get you on camera."

Though the move to sex is supposed to be gradual, Scott Wilder can't wait to get a dick in his mouth — Nick Mazzaro's. Andrew Addams follows suit, going down on Jacob, and Antonio York gags on The Dicksman's oversize piece.

As pieces of costumes come off, the wardrobe guy snakes through the groups, dodging the camera while collecting clothes. Soon the guys are hurling clothes off the set and the wardrobe guy slips in to help them get out of the more stubborn pieces.

Some of the positions are inventive: Antonio, in a reverse push-up position thrusts his cock up into Jacob's mouth. After Blakk has filmed this and moved on, Jacob rushes off the set to get a drink of water, then jumps back in.

Ty gives an insane blowjob to Sean Steele, hurling his mouth onto its length. Danny is a very good substitute, alternately blowing Ty, Sean, and Chris Dano.

Blakk finally calls for a break and Peter Romero arranges the guys in groups to take stills. The rest of the day is spent with fucking, and then it's a wrap.

Masque will be released in late summer.
