SAN FRANCISCO—Gay adult video-on-demand provider NakedSword will field a five-person bicycle team as part of the 2010 AIDS/LifeCycle cross-country event. Co-produced by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the annual ride raises funds for HIV-AIDS research, community support and awareness.
Team NakedSword, made up of employees and friends of the company, will join hundreds of other committed activists June 6-12 for the seven-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
“We hope other members of the industry will join us by throwing their support behind this year's riders with sponsorships and participants,” said Chief Executive Officer Tim Valenti.
To raise money for its team, NakedSword plans to combine charity with partying by hosting two fundraisers in San Francisco. The first event, a barbecue and beer bust, will take place from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at The San Francisco Eagle (398 12th St.). Revelers may buy bottomless cups of beer for $10 and enjoy a raffle of NakedSword memberships and gay porn DVDs.
The second event, dubbed “The Sit & Spin Fundraver,” will take place from 10 p.m. until closing Thursday, May 27, at Paradise Lounge (1501 Folsom St). The fundraiser expects five local disc jockeys to host a night of drinking and dancing. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door.
In addition, NakedSword parent company AEBN has promised a $1,000 donation to the cause.
“Porn is our company’s first love, but our next two favorite things are great parties and community activism,” Valenti said. “Participating in this year’s AIDS/LifeCyle gives us the perfect opportunity to have fun and do some good at the same time. We’re rooting for everyone participating in this year’s life-changing ride, with the loudest cheers reserved for Team NakedSword.”
