NEW YORK — A New York City firefighter who posed in the annual FDNY Firefighters Calendar of Heroes is catching heat for also having appeared in a Guys Gone Wild segment.
Michael Biserta, 22, is the coverboy for the 2008 calendar, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of which go to the FDNY Fire Safety Education Fund. Yet when Fire Department Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta found out about Biserta’s soft-core porn past he cancelled all future calendars, which last year raised more than $150,000.
The New York Daily News reports that sales of the calendar are much higher than usual. “We had a big jump in sales since it hit the news,” the manager of The Firestone in Greenwich Village told the paper. “It’s always a big seller, but yesterday we got 40 orders right away and have another 40 to 50 more on back order.”
Since Biserta performed for Guys Gone Wild prior to his appointment as a firefighter, he will not be disciplined.
The 2007 calendar, which is already available, will remain on store shelves.
