UPDATE: A fund-raiser is being set up Friday afternoon at Eleven restaurant (8811 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, (310) 855-0800), just a few doors down from Micky's. Head bartender Jason Beers tells GAYVN.com that proceeds from the event will go to help out the workers, as the entire staff is now jobless for the time being. Beers says, "The management of Micky's and the entire community has been incredibly gracious to us." The benefit begins at 4 p.m. and is open to the public; donations will be taken at the door. Sponsors of the event are Eleven, AVN, Cybersocket, RandyBlue, and NakedSword.
WEST HOLLYWOOD — A fire broke out on the roof of gay nightclub Micky's Tuesday afternoon. Santa Monica Boulevard was closed through rush hour as firefighters fought to contain the blaze.
KNBC.com reports that one person was rescued from the second floor of the building and taken to the hospital to have minor injuries treated.
Most of the damage was done to the roof and attic, yet inspector Jason Hurd said there was also major smoke and water damage to the first floor of the bar and restaurant.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Micky's is the site of the popular Cocktails With the Stars, where fans meet their fave porn stars. Cybersocket editor Scotty B., who hosts, said that the event was being put on hold. He said, "While I haven't personally seen what damage the quick-moving blaze did to the building, management of the bar has told me it is quite extensive and it will be a while before anyone steps foot into the bar. Today management will be reentering the building to survey the damage."
Head bartender at Micky's, Jason Beers, told Scotty, "There just will not be a CWTS or any other promotion until we get back on our feet and have the bar running."
Tomorrow's scheduled porn star, Francois Sagat, will appear at the Faultline Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
