Mickey's Quickies: The Oscar/Porn Connection

What's the porn connection to the Oscars this year (there always is, isn't there?)? Well, it turns out this year's Best Original Screenplay winner (for Milk), Dustin Lance Black, the gay Mormon who gave a moving gay-positive acceptance speech, owes his success in part to a gay porn star.

Lance's first movie was On the Bus, which is an innovative movie about reality shows that was done before reality shows were really big. He took seven guys in a big camper to Burning Man and filmed what happened. Some of them were newly gay, some conservative, but one of them was Dean O'Connor, the irrepressible and bratty porn pup who was discovered by Kevin Clarke and worked in movies by Jerry Douglas, Chi Chi LaRue, Wash West and more. Dean was such a brat in On the Bus, he was the most hated by the others in the movie and became the focus of the film. Even the outtakes and the supporting material focus on him, and it's all hysterical. And I, as Mickey Skee, have a cameo in it because at the time I was Dean's landlord. He lived downstairs from me and I talk about him in the movie. (I later had to evict Dean, and he went into rehab.)

On the Bus is still available on Amazon.com, and I have some photos of Lance backstage at the Oscars as well as some other very sexy pictures of him in my new column about bisexuality on Examiner.com....

  • Porn judge, reviewer and famous playwright Robert Patrick has a play about gay relationships and the entertainment industry that's opening at the Hunger Artists Theater in Fullerton, Calif., in mid March....

  • Robert Van Damme is making a super splash with his Private Party 1: The Mystery Begins, which shows odd his directorial and sexual talents.

  • Michael Lucas has made news again, this time in a subtle way. On an iReport on CNN discussing the New York City stores that are closing down (including ones selling "smut"), there's a shot of Lucas' two movies La Dolce Vita and Gigolo. Lucas also recently made a hot model search video for YouTube, which was pulled after only minutes. You still can see it on his blog, though!
