Mickey’s Quickies | Prion’s Pool Parties, Sabin’s ‘Friends of Dorothy,’ Toby Ross’ Erotica

Longtime director Robert Prion’s private pool parties are on again. Prion has decided to restart the legendary suburban New Jersey events. Prion has been directing porn since 1982 and in the past often joined the on-screen action, along with partner Jay Richards. Now that Prion’s Galaxy Pictures is a staple in the porn world, he keeps his pants on (he says because of my reviews asking him to stay out of his movies), but Richards, who is a lot younger and still fit, often appears in Galaxy titles.

Anyway, the pool parties — sometimes fundraisers for AIDS-related charities — remain the biggest recruiting vehicle for Prion to see how guys feel stripping in front of other guys. He observes potential new talent taking off their clothes at the weekly clothing-optional events, and also checks out which guys may have the proper “assets” to do porn. Prion tells me he gets dozens of emails a week from guys around the country asking to be in one of his movies, and he usually invites them to his summer pool parties to see if they’ve got what it takes. It will be great to see what new talent he comes up with this year.

Sabin has become a “friend of Dorothy.” Those of us who have been in the gay adult industry for more than two decades remember Sabin, who not only was manager of the TomKat Theatre in West Hollywood when it went gay-only, but also published the Gay Video Guide of porn mini-reviews. He kicked off the Gay Producers Association Awards in 1984 and produced the Gay Erotic Video Awards through most of the 1990s. Now, he has bought the “Surrender Dorothy” store that offered gifts and gay paraphernalia at the French Marketplace in West Hollywood, moved it across Santa Monica Boulevard, and reopened the store as Friends of Dorothy. The shop has erotic cards, some clothing, tchotchkes consumers won’t find anywhere else, and erotic DVDs and books (including mine!). He’s right down the street from Chi Chi LaRue’s new store, and we wish all of them well in these tough economic times.

Legendary Chicago-based director Toby Ross steered me over to his new line of “Erotica” titles. Ross, who is always good at mixing a decent storyline with sex, runs the company himself. Moon Over Hong Kong, which Ross directed, kicks off the series. The story follows a secret agent who is trying to uncover the machinations behind the deaths of other agents at the hands of mysterious “Black Dahlia.” Johnny Carvahal, Peter Michaels and Cory Flynt star, and Ross’ new African-American find, a luscious dreadlocked, well-hung guy named Marlone Star, is the Black Dahlia.

Not surprisingly, Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black was a no-show at Will Clark’s Porno Bingo June 24, just after sexually explicit photos of him appeared on the Internet. Clark has been waiting for an excuse or an apology ever since. He had a stack of Advocate magazines for the guy to sign, but so far no word from Black’s camp.

Lucas Entertainment’s sure-to-be controversial Men of Israel is now available for pre-order. The title got a big boost from a meet-and-greet last week when some of the guys from the Holy Land entertained fans at the Cock Cribs.

Hot House Entertainment’s Club Inferno features an amazingly erotic series of scenes this week, including one in which Dak Ramsey pummels young Luke Cassidy.

According to Ramsey, “I bent that punk over and let him have it. I loved hearing him scream.”
