Daxx Reed, who appeared in bondage and fisting films for many major companies, died of undisclosed causes earlier this month. Over the past seven years he performed for various studios, including Mustang, MSR Video, Hot House, Dark Alley Media and Raging Stallion, most recently appearing in Raging Stallion’s Fistpack 20: Fist My Butt (April 2009).
“It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Daxx,” Raging Stallion’s Chris Ward wrote on his blog. “He had recently moved to San Francisco from Los Angeles. He was a very fine man. We only worked with him a few times here at Raging Stallion, but I will remember each and every one of the hours I spent with him. Daxx, you will be missed.”
Speaking of the Raging Stallion team, Michael Brandon is fresh out of rehab, looking better than ever and making public appearances again. His Monster Bang line is under redevelopment, and no doubt Brandon’s own personal “monster” is raring to go.
In other comeback news, how about someone who started performing in porn during the silent era? Of course, I’m teasing, but I’m allowed to do that because Lana Luster (aka Vince Harrington) is an “old, old friend” (to quote Auntie Mame). Luster was a ubiquitous, fashionable drag artist on the club circuit in the 1980s and ’90s. Little did anyone know she packed a huge cock that had to be tucked away (if not wrapped around one leg). Freeing the beast created the delightful adult performer Harrington. Lana won a few awards, but her alter-ego was noteworthy in some campy costume epics. Bi Claudius was one of my favorites.
Harrington now has a recurring role on the third season of the here! Networks’ The Lair. In one episode, Luster shows up in a cameo as a chanteuse. Talk about costume changes! Harrington also is involved in producing content for the clothed female-naked male (CFNM) niche. He maintains a website at VinceHarringtonCFNM.com and refers to the project as “a small sideline”—to which I respond, “There’s nothing small about that.”
Luster recently hosted “When Queens Collide,” a live benefit for the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Society (GLASS). The production starred Momma and Kay Sedia, who figured prominently in scenes filmed during the event to become part of a documentary about the gay lifestyle. The finished product probably will hit the gay film festival circuit next year.
Last week, Harrington/Luster was part of a panel addressing UCLA students about the relationship between porn and coming out. (“Hey Mom, guess what? Check out this DVD.”)
Luster later told me, “I have been tossing around the idea of a small nightclub act.” I’ll be in the front row, swooning.
Most of the industry probably knows Harrington/Luster better as Michael LaBarbera, the publicity and production manager for Pacific Sun Entertainment.
In the I-Just-Can’t-Wait department, I’m champing at the bit to see Dominic Ford’s new gay porn title, rumored to be his most hysterical yet. Whorrey Potter and the Sorcerer’s Balls stars Robert Van Damme, Matthew Rush, Eddie Diaz and Cameron Adams. A Diaz-Rush scene is being teased on Ford’s site, DominicFord.com.
Here’s the story: Rush is Voldemorecock (and he certainly is), and Diaz is naïve Ron Weasy. A wardrobe malfunction involving a cloak of invisibility hides all of Weasy except his cock. When Voldemorecock sees the appendage floating around, he has to capture it…with his mouth. How can a plot like that go wrong?
More quickies:
- Groundbreaking gay photographers and filmmakers Monte Hanson and Jim Paris are known for shooting with Bob Mizer in the early days of Athletic Model Guild. They risked jail time and police harassment for their legitimate and legal work with nude men. Some of the posing-strap and beefcake videos, which seem tame by today’s standards, are being compiled for AMG’s modern American beefcake line, The Complete Collection. Each title will focus on an individual model.
- Fans of SeanCody.com know the face and body of Simon Dexter, who went by the name “Harley” online. Dexter has expanded his career and is planning dancing club gigs with the help of David Forest. His tour is expected to kick off Nov. 12.
- Cody Kyler is a guy to watch. He won Best Actor at the recent HustlaBall Berlin Awards for his role in Flava Works’ Mixxxed Nuts and was named “Breakout PornBoy of 2009.” Next he is scheduled to appear Nov. 6-8 in Pride festivities at the Helios Resort in Palm Springs, Calif. While there, he plans to film a new DVD. At just 18, Kyler’s already a guy who intends to make it big in the gay adult industry, where it’s harder and harder to become a superstar.
