Mickey's Quickies | Chi Chi’s Store Nominated, Toby Ross’ ‘Straight Boys,’ Plus Gossip and New Releases

Chi Chi LaRue has snagged another award nomination. If you haven’t waltzed into Chi Chi LaRue’s boutique on Santa Monica Boulevard, then you’ve missed a pornucopia of amazing erotica. Yeah, there are plenty of nice aisles to cruise, but now LaRue’s shop has been recognized as among the best independent adult store by StorErotica magazine.

LaRue noted, “I’m overjoyed at this news. In its first seven months, Chi Chi LaRue’s has received so many acclamations from the industry’s respected award shows, it must really mean that we’ve done something fabulous over there. My entire company and I are so honored and thankful that our store is so well received by the public and industry alike.”

The third annual awards will be presented in Las Vegas at the end of September.

Legendary director Toby Ross made his name in the 1970s by filming softcore male erotica. Now he’s reviving his talents in that area by making movies he says are “perfect for cable television.” With the proliferation of gay-themed TV, he is releasing a few titles under Hornbill Films and getting them out to the programmers at indie cable channels. Of course, there’s a “straight” storyline in some of them, probably because Ross has used that theme very successfully in the past.

In Straight Boys/Gay Boys and the Games They Play, Ross features five vignettes demonstrating how gay guys can seduce straight friends. In the sequel, Straight Boys/Gay Boys 2: I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, six different stories collide. I’m most looking forward to Live for Sex, Die for Love, co-directed by Ross and Joe Rubin. The flick stars Ricky Sinz, Ajax Satyros, Mark Holland and Rubin himself.

Recent GAYVN Hall of Fame inductee Phil Tarley donned his (always flamboyant) hat as activist and has been canvassing papers with a poignant letter to the editor about recent protests during which people carried “God Hates Fags” signs. Tarley’s letter comprises not just a history lesson, but a good lesson overall.

“More people have been killed in the name of God than [by] all diseases that have plagued mankind since religion reared its ugly head…,” the letter notes. “The word faggots comes from the Italian word frocci, the sweet-smelling vegetation that was thrown on the fire to ameliorate the smell of burning homo flesh. ... I am proud and happy to be an atheist.”

Longtime GAYVN judge and reviewer Robert Patrick made his name as a playwright, and now for the first time his collected works are available online. They make great reads. All of them are poignant, funny and have an excuse for male frontal nudity somewhere in the plot.

Visit RobertPatrickPersonal.Wordpress.com and search for the plays, which include The Haunted Host, Judas, Sound (a prequel to Sunset Boulevard), sexy sci-fi thriller Delusion, and Patrick’s personal favorite, Michelangelo’s Models, first performed in 1981.

Bijou Video has re-released Construction Crew, a film about 1960s-era blond California studs. Previously released as Crow Bar Crew, the digitally remastered DVD runs 60 minutes. College guys work with pickaxes and shovels on a freeway construction crew until it just gets too hot for anyone to keep his clothes on.

Some scoops on new releases:

  • 8TeenBoy features a dozen new twinks — most notably smooth bubble-butt Jesse Starr — in Teen Fuck Buddies.
  • Hot House Entertainment dived into the Locker Room for some hard jocks, this time with exclusives Vince Ferelli, Ethan Wolfe and Kyle King; directed by Robert Drake.
  • Lucas Entertainment goes downscale and gritty with Cock Cribs, which even has a graffiti-like logo on the box cover.
  • TitanMen’s Bad Conduct has the Internet heating up over cover model muscleman Dean Flynn, whose huge cock explodes out of his tighty whities on the box cover. He finds a perfect match with boy-next-door Will Parker in what is sure to be an instant hit for director Brian Mills.
  • Spunkstar has a new title out by Brady Mayo called Hot for Twinks. The flick features young guys going at it in the sun, in the kitchen and other places that get hot.
  • Seal Productions’ Real Couples contains exactly what the title implies: real British couples who show their true love for each other on a compilation DVD.
  • Liberate Studios, with Pacific Sun, recently released Kurt Rogers’ Rogered!, filmed in South Africa. Pacific Sun’s next new title, Man Hunt 2, is expected this week. New find Raul Hawkins stands upright with a prodigious boner on the cover.
  • Most shocking, thought perhaps not surprising, is TitanMen’s Shock Treatment. The action involves electric shocks and catheters that go all the way up the penis chute. And lots of screams, too.

Other quickies:

  • In early July, FistingUnderground.com is offering a sneak peek at Fruits of Their Labour, an upcoming Dark Alley Media title. The scene shows Alberto going to an orchard to pick some fruit. He encounters Javier De Cerdo, who wants to pick him.
  • HotHouse.com challenges audiences with the tease, “Can You Deepthroat a 10-inch Cock?” Well, the play-by-play shows the talented exclusive model Vince Ferelli doing just that. Bring out a notepad to take notes.

I can’t wait to unwrap Titan Media’s fetish film Fist and Piss, set to debut this week. Co-directed by TitanMen exclusive Tony Buff and GAYVN Award-winning Paul Wilde, the title promises an unforgettable “extreme ride soaked in spit, piss, lube and cum — a wet and wild romp.” Oh boy! There’s piss in a tub, a gas mask sequence and one guy who almost gets drowned in urine. Tony Buff is shown peeing on a bound Chris Yosef. Buff fucks and fists him, and then does a “suspension bondage fisting” with one final soak. Sounds like you have to see that to believe it.
