ManCam: ‘Look, ma, no hands!'

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Gay hookup site Manhunt has added ManCam to its portfolio of member services. The new video chat feature, developed by Manhunt Labs in partnership with a leading chat service provider, enables Manhunt members to connect live before meeting in person or when face-to-face meetings are not possible.

Full- and limited-access Manhunt members may experience ManCam free for the first 30 days. After that, full-access members will be able to send chat invitations by clicking an instant message button on a profile or mail message. Limited-access members will be able to receive invitations, but will not be able to send them. Both groups may take advantage of ManCam's audio and video capabilities or elect to use the integrated text chat instead.

"Manhunt is committed to finding new and innovative ways to leverage technology to enable our members around the world to connect," said Ken Herron, chief marketing officer for Online Buddies Inc., Manhunt's parent company. "We started with the phone, moved onto fixed and mobile Web with text and photos, and now offer our members fun, fast and easy video."

Designed for easy use, ManCam offers audio message alerts and "block list" options that allow members to accept or reject chat requests. When users decline, the invitation extender will be notified simply that the invitee has not responded.

When members accept an invitation, the ManCam application connects both parties for an unlimited, private, one-on-one video chat session. Popular guys can open multiple windows and engage in sessions with several men at the same time.

To use ManCam, members must have a webcam and the current version of Adobe's Flash. Manhunt's customer service representatives are available 24/7 to answer questions and help those who experience "issues" with the service.

Manhunt launched in April 2001 as a Boston-area telephone dating service for men. As men began using the Internet to connect, founders and owners Jonathan Crutchley and Larry Basile took the brand online. Today, Manhunt claims more than 1.5 million active profiles, with 22,000 new members joining each week.

Manhunt boasts members in more than 120 countries and territories worldwide. The site is offered in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and German.
