PHILADELPHIA—With the expected June 1 release of a cut-for-retail version of Raging Stallion Studios’ Focus/ReFocus, indie distributor Breaking Glass Pictures’ QC Cinema label is pushing gay erotica into the mainstream.
The title will be available on high-definition Blu-ray Disc for $29.99, a Breaking Glass spokesman said.
On its release in the XXX market, Focus/ReFocus generated significant buzz with sharp visuals and a twisted plot. The modern envisioning of classic film noir themes takes aim at viewers’ emotions and pleasure centers with a combination of drama and sex.
In a nutshell, the story follows Joe (portrayed by Raging Stallion newbie Cole Streets), a young man who discovers his penchant for filming his new boyfriend Eddie (Raging Stallion Studios 2010 Man of the Year David Taylor) in the midst of their lovemaking spirals into a subversive obsession. Joe’s desire to push the limits of his new passion for directing amateur porn draws him into a suspenseful and steamy thrill ride.
Of course, it’s all fun and games until the objects of Joe’s voyeuristic lens start turning up dead.
On Blu-ray Disc, every splatter of blood and strand of chest hair in Focus/Refocus is visible in glorious detail. That’s one reason Raging Stallion Studios President Chris Ward, who co-directed the XXX version of the title, is committed to the Blu-ray medium. The eye-popping visual richness of the big-budget finished product “inspire[s] the crew and inspire[s] myself to push our limits” and “to challenge ourselves as filmmakers.”
According to Philip Malaczewski at Breaking Glass, “On the heels of [Raging Stallion’s] other big-budget, story-driven productions like Grunts and To The Last Man, the Blu-ray version of Focus/ReFocus is just one more reason the [mainstream] film industry may have to start taking erotica more seriously.”
