VAN NUYS, Calif. - A new studio is poised to debut in July with its first film: Together Bi Chance. A spokesman for Hermes Films said the company plans to focus on bisexual, black and athletic content.
"We're not here to compete with COLT, Hot House or Channel 1, nor do we expect to overtake those specializing in foreign-shot or black features," a Hermes spokesman said. "But we found that there is a shortage of mid-market product, especially bisexual, and we hope to fill that gap.
"With the wholesale price of DVDs for the gay market getting out of control, retailers of all types are beginning to feel the pinch," the spokesman continued. "Our product is designed to retail under $40, and as such should address a forgotten market segment. Blockbusters are the flash of the genre and...are great to have. But when you look at the cineplex week after week, there are a bunch of moderate-budget movies that appeal to viewers of all types, and that is the segment we are trying to attract within gay culture."
