HIV-Positive Bareback Model May Pursue Legal Action

LONDON - One of three men who were infected with HIV during a British bareback shoot said he feels "sick that the DVD is on sale" and is considering pursuing legal action against the film's producer, distributor and director in order to prevent other young men from suffering the same fate.

According to Boyz, the London gay entertainment and scene magazine that broke the HIV-infection story in October, Load XXX Films released the Ikandi film British Bareback Vacation in mid-November. Since then, a young man Boyz referred to as "Craig" - one of three performers infected by a fourth actor who didn't realize he was HIV-positive until three days after production wrapped - became suicidal and was hospitalized. Although Craig said he relied heavily on Ikandi and British Bareback Vacation director Adam Bailey for support immediately after the diagnosis, he since has cut ties with them because he came to believe they did not have his or the other actors' best interests at heart.

"I felt they were looking out for themselves," Craig told Boyz. "When I was in hospital feeling suicidal, [Bailey] told me that I had to check myself out straight away."

Bailey refuted the claim, telling Boyz, "I didn't know he was suicidal. He was saying how much he hated it in hospital, and I knew that his state was always better when he was with us."

Craig said he became involved in the adult-entertainment industry on the recommendation of a friend, and now he regrets the decision. He tested negative for HIV immediately before filming of British Bareback Vacation began, he said.

Although no litigation has commenced, Boyz reported that a prominent legal firm is considering the case and a BBC news team is investigating the story.

As for Craig: "I'm 100 percent committed to stopping other models becoming infected with HIV," he said.
