Glitter Films' ‘John' to Bow at Berlin Porn Film Festival

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - John, the first production from "porn arthouse" Glitter Films' Guy Love division, will make its European debut Oct. 24 at the third annual Berlin Porn Film Festival.

"This is very exciting," Glitter Films founder and John director Astrid Glitter said. "John was a risky film to make. Not only was it the first 100-percent Kiwi-made XXX boy-boy film, not only was it being made by a woman, but we made porn with soul.

"We asked people what they thought was missing in adult films," she continued. "The answer was consistently a story and real people. That's what we strive to give them in our films. That's what makes our films, including John, so different from the rest."

Glitter, a native New Zealander, founded her company in September 2005, becoming the first female porn producer in the country's burgeoning adult industry. She said she eschews the "traditional" porn aesthetic for a more artistic approach.

"I believe there can be art, creativity and quality in adult films, as well as lust and lots of sex," she explained.

From bondage to "splatter porn," inclusive of gay, straight and undecided filmmakers, the Berlin Porn Film Festival showcases the gamut of film genres and sexual persuasions. At its heart is a drive to showcase porn that is outside the XXX mainstream and daring.
