GayVN Awards Ready to Rock San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO—The final countdown is on for the annual GayVN Awards, but there is still some time to get tickets to one of the hotly anticipated events of the year.

The 2010 GayVN Awards are presented by NakedSword, a gay adult video-on-demand service, and hosted by Alec Mapa. The ceremony takes place Friday, Sept. 24, in the historic Castro Theatre.

The GayVN Awards are dedicated to recognizing outstanding movies and talented individuals who contribute to the advancement of the gay adult entertainment industry. Its broad-based, nationwide panel of judges, predominantly gay press-affiliated, has been awarding trophies for 22 years, making the GayVN Awards the most respected and recognized awards in the gay adult entertainment industry.

Nominees for this year’s awards show can be found at GayVNAwards.com.

The 2010 GayVN Awards will take place in conjunction with the annual Folsom Street Fair. Folsom has been a San Francisco tradition since 1994 and is one of the world's largest leather events. Proceeds from the fair are distributed to organizations that promote a sense of community, diversity, cooperation, health and human services.

Other events scheduled for the weekend include a bar crawl through the SoMa district, the massive Magnitude party, NakedSword's "Lockdown" after-party and the fair itself. For a complete schedule of events, visit GAYVNAwards.com.

Comedian Alec Mapa, who has appeared on TV's Desperate Housewives and played the effervescent Suzuki St. Pierre on Ugly Betty, is a popular and an openly gay Hollywood actor. Ellen Degeneres called him “smart, hilarious and funny.” Variety noted “Alec Mapa is a freak. No one should be this talented.” He has entertained audiences worldwide in almost every medium, beginning with his appearance in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of M. Butterfly through more than 40 television series including Alias, Friends, Roseanne, Seinfeld and NYPD Blue, and numerous feature film roles. His Wisecrack stand-up comedy special premiered on LOGO in 2005 and gained a cult following.

Tickets are still available for the 2010 GayVN Awards, and can be purchased online at GayVNAwards.com, or at Gold’s Gym Castro, Mr. S Leather and Does Your Mother Know in San Francisco.
